Our economy could be helped by simply buying American made t-shirts, instead of ones that are manufactured in overseas sweatshops. If everybody would buy from U.S. manufacturers, it could help ease economic concerns and American made t-shirts are made by several companies. There are many companies located in the United States that are beginning to manufacture t-shirts made from all natural products in keeping with going ‘green’. The purchase of t-shirts and clothing made in other countries is also an issue now with ‘sweatshops’ being used for cheap labor. Purchasing American made t-shirts offers many benefits over purchasing imported items.

If you buy USA made t-shirts, you showing support for your own country and keeping American workers employed. Overseas countries that treat their worker inhumane by paying them nominal pay, if at all, in addition to the grueling hours and punishments they suffer for non-compliance, should not be supported in any way.

The origin of the clothes is not something many shoppers think about before they purchase. They may change their shopping habits if they were more aware of the horrible working conditions these items are manufactured under and the consequences for American workers that may lose their jobs.

Adhering to a few pointers can assure that you are supporting American workers and buying American made t-shirts. USA made t-shirts that is manufactured under the Fair Trade system is one identifier. These products are made by companies that value their workers and practice fair labor items such as a fair wage, breaks when needed and sick leave without appraisal. Workers who are in the Fair Trade system are often lower income or poverty stricken people that are trying to earn an honest living through hard work.

The Union of Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees and Hotel and Restaurant Employees International Union came up with the UNITE HERE label to indicate American made t-shirts. USA made t-shirts purchased with a Union label is a guarantee that the workers who made your t-shirt are treated fairly. They have a contract with the company they work for that ensures safe and fair working conditions as well as the wages they are being paid and benefits.

Clothing companies can be researched before you purchase. A very good organization to support in the United States are the cooperatives, which also are comprised of lower income individuals that make quality products from natural resources found in our country. By helping to protect the environment you are also helping low-income employees to support themselves. Co-ops also give some ownership to the workers and other individuals who ensure better working conditions while producing higher quality products than found in imported items. The products made are of a good quality because they take pride in the manufacturing process of a company they own.

Your favorite store can be the first place you start, when you decide to purchase American made t-shirts. Are the t-shirts you are purchasing American made t-shirts or is your favorite store using sweatshops for the clothing they bring to you? The Responsible Shopper Website is one way of finding out if the American made clothing are really made in the USA. They will indicate if any accusations made against them regarding working conditions of sweatshops, in the company profile on the website.

If you make sure the clothing you are buying is not made in sweatshops with unfair labor practices, you will also be supporting the companies that practice fair labor standards. We want to look our best in the clothing we purchase, or we wouldn’t have reason to buy it. Emphasis is on wearing name brand clothing and if American made t-shirts have the brand, this is all well and good. But if the brand you like is being made by children who are being mistreated and made to sit for hours without breaks, is wearing that brand worth it? Do some investigative work about the brands you like. Unfair labor practices will be stopped if these companies are unable to survive financially.

Buying American made clothing helps the economy stay healthier and keeps American citizens employed. Because so many people are losing their jobs because retail sales are down, this is more essential than ever. Many companies have found they can make a bigger profit by importing inferior products and this is not the conducive to good business practices. The boost that is needed for the economy can also make American jobs more secure if American made products and American made clothing were a growing trend.

Buying American made products makes good sense. In order for businesses to survive and the economy prosper, American made products should be manufactured on American soil with American workers. The number of jobs being lost is primarily due to America’s relying on products from other countries and the dollars that are leaving our economy to go to other foreign countries. Downsizing and laying people off would stop and there would be no need for companies to shut their doors, they could simply adapt to new strategies. The future of American children depends on a healthy economy and less dependence on foreign made products. With the world’s outlook on the almighty dollar today it is no wonder the economy if failing. Everything is about making as much money as possible in the cheapest way available.

American made clothing is becoming extinct, as well. A ‘made in America’ label may not really reveal the production source of the product and little, if any, of the clothing may have been made here. However, the clothing may not have been made in the U.S. at all. It may have been made elsewhere and had the embellishments added here. This is why you must do a little investigating to find out if American made products are totally made in America. Quality and workmanship are the responsibility of American companies, but few may actually uphold any standards. In their irresponsibility, they may be selling their company, their employee’s jobs and even their own job to a foreign country.

American made clothing is being sought by the people who are refusing to buy inferior foreign products because they feel that American made clothing is better quality. They feel strongly that we should take care of our own economy before we support foreign countries. America can be restored to the greatness it once knew, if we return to our previous rankings in the export business. The U.S. used to be ranked quite high in the export business but today it seems import has taken its place.American made products are actually becoming quite rare.

Taking a stand on products that are made in our country is the first thing we should do. Man-made resources are not as popular as they once were as more people focus on environmental issues and some companies are capitalizing on the “green” movement. Instead of using import products with lower standards from other countries, America’s natural resources are being used more and more. Instead of using materials imported from other countries, American companies are trying to find new ways to recycle or utilize America’s natural resources.

American made products are still made by cooperatives and they are typically comprised of low-income people trying to survive in today’s economy. Producing American made clothing utilizing our own resources is something they have been doing for years and the workers have a say in the operations, as well. A good work environment is one benefit, but they also make acceptable wages and benefits. All American companies should consider this business model. We should slow down on importing and concentrate on making American made products from the resources we have readily available.

It’s amazing to think of the American made products that could be manufactured in America, if you stop and look around. In addition, this will create jobs for Americans instead of supporting other countries. The economy here has gone downhill and needs the boost that not only American made clothing but other products can provide.

Choosing American made clothing or products is something every American should participate in to help our ailing economy. You should consider what this country has to offer before you make the purchase. Boosting our own economy is simple if we stop bolstering foreign companies with our silly trade agreements that are unfair to us, but offer foreign companies a way to market their inferior goods. How do you do this? American made clothing should be what all consumers steadfastly insist on and other American made products can be innovated to create the demand that the import markets have stolen.
